Motorcyclist Killed in Saint James Motor Vehicle Crash

Serkan Senal, 30, of 19 Orchid Drive, Port Jefferson Station, has been identified as the motorcyclist who was killed in a motor vehicle crash in Saint James on April 19. Valerie Campbell, 19, of 26 Cambon Place, Nesconset, has been identified as the driver of the 2004 Jeep. The investigation is continuing.

ST. JAMES (Suffolk County Police Department) - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Saint James today.

The motorcyclist whose identity has not been released pending notification of his family was riding a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Route 25 in Saint James at approximately 1:55 p.m. At the intersection of Route 25 and Cambon Place, the motorcycle struck a 2004 Jeep that was proceeding northbound on Cambon Place.

The motorcyclist and the driver of the Jeep were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. The driver of the Jeep was treated and released.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

ST. JAMES (Suffolk County Police Department) - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist this morning in St. James.

Timothy Otis was driving his 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle west on Route 25 at 8:27 a.m. when his motorcycle collided with a 2006 Range Rover, driven by Gina Caliguri, that was making a left turn onto Route 25 from Hillside Avenue.

Otis, 37, of Centereach, was pronouced dead at 4:06 p.m. at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Otis had been admitted in critical condition following the accident.

Caliguri, 29, of Smithtown, was treated and released from Stony Brook University Medical Center.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

Police Commissioner's Son Stabbed in St. James

ST. JAMES (SUFFOLK COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT) - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Selden man for stabbing Michael Dormer, the son of Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer, early this morning.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. Michael Kiernan had an altercation with Jonathan Christ, 22, of Bayside Queens, in the parking lot of The Irish Viking bar in Saint James. Kiernan punched Christ who suffered injuries to his head and face. Michael Dormer, 21, came to Christ's aid and Kiernan stabbed him in the stomach.

Kiernan fled from the scene but was chased and caught behind the 7-Eleven store on Lake Avenue by bouncers and bystanders. He was held down until police arrived.

Dormer was transported and admitted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Christ was treated and released from Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Kiernan, 20, of 26 Montauk St., was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Assault 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 21.

Fourth Squad Detectives are continuing the investigation.

“We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Michael is in stable condition and is doing well. We now ask for privacy while we focus all our energy on helping Michael recover," said police commissioner Richard Dormer.

Students were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Monday from Nesaquake Middle School due to a malfunctioning boiler.

Schools Dismissed Early

The Smithtown Central School District dismissed all schools early Friday pending the worst of the approaching snow storm.

The high schools dismissed seniors who drive to school at noon and all other students were dismissed at 12:30 p.m.

The middle schools were dismissed at 1:10 p.m.

Accompsett, Mills Pond, Mt. Pleasant and Tackan Elementary Schools will be dismissed at 1:50 p.m.. Branch Brook, Dogwood, Nesconset, St. James and Smithtown Elementary Schools will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

All after school activities have been canceled for Friday.

This Just In: Dog Drives Car Into Cool Beanz

Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct police officers responded to an incident where a dog drove a car into a St. James coffee house tonight.

Bryan Maher, 60, of 103 Huron St., Port Jefferson, left his 1992 Chevrolet van running when he went into Cool Beanz at 7:10 p.m. Maher’s dog, Bentley, put the vehicle in drive and the van rolled into the building.

No one was injured. The crash damaged the glass window at the front of the store and some patio furniture.
